IC Information;
Character Name; Charlotte Brontë, nickname “Charlie”
Canon; Shikkoku no Sharnoth -What a beautiful tomorrow-
Canon Point; Midway through the first chapter, before she falls asleep.
Age; 21
House; Freya
Power; Charm
Personality; An intelligent, beautiful girl from a well-known, well-respected family, Charlie is very popular at the Royal College of Scholars that she attends. She is the sort of person that has a smile and kind words of encouragement for nearly everyone that she meets – to the point that many of her peers go so far as to place her judgement above that of others. However, she is very humble, insisting that she's nothing but a normal townswoman in all situations, and that she's hardly as well-behaved and obedient as she seems when trying to take the fall for making two of her close friends late for class.
On that note, when with those that she considers close friends, she pokes fun at them regularly – both for fun and in hopes that she might be able to get them so embarrassed that they'll forget any things that might be bothering them, and tells jokes and lies (by omission! She never tells straight lies) with a perfectly straight face.
Charlotte is extraordinarily overprotective of the people that she's close to, which shows in her opposition to her youngest friend's marriage to a foreigner prior to meeting the man (though she plays it off well, saying that they can hold hands for “two whole seconds”). In general, she gives the appearance of being nothing short of a calm, kind older sister or mother. Her best friend even goes so far as to call her “Mother Charlie” jokingly.
Of course, she's not nearly as perfect as she seems.
As a child, she was always afraid of everything – she frequently talked with her best friend, Mary, then. When they spoke about their dreams, Charlie had none. When they spoke about their mothers, Charlie worried that hers didn't love her. Mary, on the other hand, was confident, and always responded to her questions accordingly.
This was the only thing that calmed Charlie's fears as a girl. In the present, she still relies heavily on Mary for support, even though she doesn't outwardly fear everything in the same way that she used to. It wouldn't be strange to say that her happiness is dependent on Mary's continued existence.
This is why, when she's shown a vision of a future filled with war, she's seized with a fear of possibly losing her beloved friend, and takes the first opportunity available to be able to change that. She joins a research group devoted to merging their world with another, dark world, and stopping time so that she and Mary will never have to be separated. When making her “wish,” she was told that she could only choose one person – therefore, Charlotte even goes so far as to give up on every other person that she has ever been close to, for the sake of being with Mary forever.
When meeting with one of her collaborators in the days leading up to the execution of her plan, she's shown to be uncharacteristically quiet and morose. However, this seems to have been more out of fear of being discovered – if Mary had known, she most likely would have attempted to stop her. Believing that she's acting for the greater good, Charlie is extremely steadfast in her decision, and even goes so far as to write Mary a letter telling her not to look into things, to be delivered a few days following her falling asleep.
